Current officially announced timelines are as follows:

  • Pink line Eleavated: May 2026
  • Pink line Underground: December 2026
  • Blue line Silkboard to KR Pura: September 2026
  • Blue line Airport to Hebbal: June 2027
  • Blue line KR Pura to Hebbal: December 2027

Note that these are all tentative estimates and are subject to change.

BEML Limited was awarded the contract in August 2023 to supply 16 trains to Pink Line. As per contract, BEML was supposed to deliver the 1st train by June 2025. However, delays have postponed the schedule. Recent media articles report that the 1st prototype train is expected by December 2025. Subject to changes.

BEML Limited was awarded the contract in August 2023 to supply 16 trains to ORR Metro Line and 21 trains to Airport Metro Line. This contract was merged together with Pink Line. As per the contract, supply of Blue Line trains will start after Pink Line trains are delivered.

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited will be supplying the additional trains to Purple & Green Line. Supply for them would commence after deliveries of Yellow Line trains are completed.

Work is currently being aimed to complete by February 2026. However, opening is dependent on Government's decision.

1. Yes, Airport Metro trains will have luggage racks in each coach.
2. No. Not all trains from Silkboard go upto Airport. Initially, every third train from Silkboard will go all the way upto Airport.
3. Direct airport trains will have limited number of stops, facilitating high speed travel.

Above is only tentative as per DPR and subject to changes. Clear Train Operatins Plan will be known closer to opening of the line.

All 3 stations are currently dropped and no longer being worked on. However, provision is there for stations to be added at a later stage.

a. Bettahalasuru Station has been dropped as Embassy Group has shown no response after signing the MoU to fund the station.
b. Chikkajala Station has been dropped as Government of Karnataka did not approve the station.
c. Allalasandra Station has been dropped as there is a disagreement between Bagmane Developers & Century Group regarding naming of the station, hence haven't come forward to sign the MoU.

While majority of the trains in orange line will terminate at Kempapura station where you can interchange to switch to blue line to go to Airport, provision has also been made for Orange Line trains to directly go to Airport, without commuters having to interchange at Kempapura.

Though provision is there for direct Airport connectivity for Orange line trains, BMRCL will decide on the appropriate Train Operation Plan closer to the opening of the line, on whether to have one orange train in X minutes directly to airport, or to terminate all at Kempapura.

Blue line metro alignment has split UP line and Down line tracks between Hebbal and Kempapura to facilitate Phase 3 Orange Line in the middle and provide seamless interchange between Blue ⇌ Orange Lines. Both Orange Line & Blue Line have been integrated into a single station.

Kempapura Station

Hebbal will feature 3 metro stations, 1 suburban station, 1 Intermodal Transit Hub building featuring BMTC bus stop, 1 BMTC Depot, Multiple FOBs connecting all (metro + suburban + IMTH + Indian railways).

Both Yellow Line and Blue Line Silkboard stations will be connected by a 143m travelator + escalator/lift to change levels + 75m walkway.

Silkboard

Originally, the silkboard interchange was planned to have both stations next to each other, similar to RV Road Station.

Due to space constraints in accommodating the station and also all loops and ramps of the double decker flyover and also the significant requirement land acquisition for the reversal track after the station forced to move Blue Line Silkboard Station to east of the existing Silkboard Flyover.

Bengaluru Metro's train width is 2.88m and axle load is 15T. No other cities in India uses the same configuration as Namma Metro. Since other city's metro trains differ in specifications, those trains cannot run on Bengaluru's tracks. Hence, leasing trains from other cities is out of question.

1. Existing green line Peenya Station is at 26m height. With double decker structure, orange line will be passing this section at 46.5m due to steep gradients of the road and existing Peenya Staion. The pier heights in this section varies from 20m to 46.5m. Moreover, there are 194 piers, 61 portal beams and 1102 piles. In view of the increase in height of double decker structure, the launching activities over Tumakuru Road and over existing Peenya Metro Station would be challenging, risky and also expensive. There is also an existing water pipeline of 1.8m dia which is running in the middle of the road, which requires shifting.

2. There is also an S-Cruve in the alignment, where the line takes left turn after Kanteerava Studio flyover and takes right to join towards Peenya Station. 2 big curves at such short distance would induce slowdown in train speed, as seen between Indiranagara & SV Road Station.

3. Hence, a change in alignment proposed where alignment goes through Airforce and ALISDA land via Gorguntepalya junction. In this alignment, existing green line viaduct is at 12m height and maximum height of orange line with double decker here would be about 35m.

4. Cost of double decker structure, including land is also getting reduced by Rs 669 crores. Length of alignment reduces by 208m. Maxiumum height reduced by 11.5m. Number of portal beams, piers, piles would reduce considerably. In the new alignment, number of portal beams reduced from 61 to just 14. Due to this, construction time will be lesser too.

5. In the new alignment, due to proposed flyover and loops at Gorguntepalya, the traffic congestion at Gorguntepalya will be largely reduced and traffic would move smoothly upto Hebbal and Airport. Moreover, Defence (Airforce) and ALISDA officials have shown interest in sparing the land for double decker works.

6. Both Phase 1 Peenya Station and Gorguntepalya Station will be interconnected with Phase 3 Station by way of FOB (Integration with 2 stations of Phase 1).

NagawaraInfo

Currently, there is no entrance from other side of the road. However, BMRCL is planning to add an entrance from other side of the road in future. Provision has been made for an FOB from across.

Currently, one entrance is there from service road. And also an FOB from entrance will be connected to the existing FOB nearby.
